An African-American father of 10 was shot dead by police in the course of an investigation in North Carolina on Wednesday, regional authorities mentioned amid a surge in concern more than law enforcement shootings.
Pasquotank County Sheriff Tommy Wooten mentioned one of his deputies fatally shot Andrew Brown in Elizabeth City close to the Atlantic coast whilst a warrant against Brown was becoming exercised.
“It’s been a tragic day,” Wooten told reporters.
According to regional tv channel WAVY, citing witnesses, Brown was shot whilst attempting to flee police in his car or truck.
Brown was 40 and the father of 10, the station mentioned.
Wooten pledged transparency in the investigation. He mentioned they had but to analyze footage from body cameras worn by the police officers involved.
He mentioned the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation would deal with the case.
