Closing Bell on April 2, 2024: Benchmark indices took a breather on Tuesday weighed by profit booking in heavyweights like ICICI Bank, L&T, Infosys, Kotak Bank, Bharti Airtel, TCS, HCL tech, Axis Bank, and Sun Pharmaceuticals.
The S&P BSE Sensex stayed range-bound through the day, moving into the green zone only briefly in the initial hours of trade. It, eventually, ended at 73,904, down 111 points or 0.15 per cent.
The Nifty50, on the other hand, ended near 22,450 at 22,453, down 9 points or 0.04 per cent.
The broader markets, however, held gains with the BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices ekeing out little over 1 per cent gains each.
Among sectors, the Nifty Realty index hit a 16-year high intraday before closing 0.8 per cent higher. The Nifty Metal index, too, added 1.36 per cent. On the downside, the Nifty IT index slipped 0.6 per cent, and the Nifty Financial Services 0.2 per cent.
