Retail inflation eased to 5.59 per cent in July mostly due to softening meals costs, according to official information released on Thursday. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) based inflation was 6.26 per cent in June and 6.73 per cent in July 2020. Industrial production surged by 13.6 per cent in June mostly due to a low-base impact and very good efficiency by manufacturing, mining and energy sectors but the output remained under the pre-pandemic level.
