Vaccine maker Serum Institute of India has suffered losses of Rs 1,000 crore simply because of the fire that broke out at the Pune facility on Thursday.
Adar Poonawalla, CEO, stated the extent of the harm was more than a Rs 1,000 crore simply because of the gear and the merchandise that have been going to be launched from this new facility.
SII was having prepared for adding capacity to make new solution such as BCG and Rotavirus vaccines and this was a massive loss for them, he stated.
Vaccines from this facility have been to go into the exports and they would now appear at creating up for this from other facilities, Poonawalla stated. The fire will not have effect on the Covishield Covid-19 vaccine production, stock or supplies, Poonawalla clarified. This was a monetary loss and will not influence supplies of any vaccines, Poonawalla stated.
Cyrus Poonawalla, CMD, SII, stated there was no production taking place in the location and no vaccine was becoming produced there at the time of the fire and they they have been fortunate that fire broke out in this constructing and not the constructing creating the Covishield vaccines.
SII was having the facility prepared to make vaccines.
SII CEO stated the harm has been in the filling line and bulk production line for BCG and Rotavirus vaccines, which was below installation in a brand new constructing. SII has a number of facilities and will be capable to make up for the supplies of BCG and Rota virus. The loss was more about capacity expansion and future production, Poonawalla stated.
Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray visited SII’s Pune facility on Friday and stated it was a relief that the Covid-19 vaccine facility was secure and will stay unaffected by the fire. Thackeray stated investigations have been going on into the incident to see no matter whether it was an accident or aspect of some sabotage. They will wait for the inquiry to be completed just before speculating about this incident, Thackeray stated.
Five persons have been killed in the fire on Thursday at the Manjari Special Economic Zone campus on Thursday. Pune police have began investigations into the incident and are not ruling out any possibilities.
