It is a sad day for the Indian Cinema. Veteran actor Dilip Kumar passed away on Wednesday just after becoming ill for several years. He was hospitalised a couple of occasions in the last handful of months. Despite becoming assured of becoming steady last week, the actor, 98, passed away on Wednesday in unfortunate news. Dilip Saab has been identified as the ‘tragedy king’ of Bollywood and has contributed immensely to Indian cinema. Dilip Kumar has left an inconsolable void and the fraternity along with fans have taken to social media to mourn his demise.
Confirming the news, the official Dilip Kumar Twitter deal with wrote, “With a heavy heart and profound grief, I announce the passing away of our beloved Dilip Saab, few minutes ago. We are from God and to Him we return. – Faisal Farooqui.” He is survived by Saira Banu. In his profession spanning six decades, Dilip Saab was conferred with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India’s highest award in the artform. He also received the Padma Vibhushan, the second-highest civilian award in the nation. Not just that, he was also the only Indian recipient of Pakistan’s highest civilian award, Nishan-e-Imtiaz.

Filmmaker Hansal Mehta wrote, “The greatest. There will be no another Dilip Kumar.” Vir Das as well mourned his demise along with Nimrit Kaur amongst other folks. Fans as well expressed their heart ache on social media and the disbelief. One of the customers wrote, “Dear Faisal and Saira ji, Yusuf Sb is immortal, he can never pass away. Not even for a fraction. He’s present every single moment in our songs, thoughts, dreams, imagination, memories, acts…” Another added, “Oh….Dilip Saab…the generations will miss you…you entertained almost four generations of Indians….we all will miss the noble soul and one the finest actor….rest in peace Sir. peace.”
Shared several moments with the legend…some really individual, some on stage. Yet, absolutely nothing truly ready me for his passing away. An institution, a timeless actor. Heartbroken.
