Pakistan Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Friday stated the government is exploring all possibilities to bring back former prime minister Nawaz Sharif from the UK, but it can only cancel his passport now as there is no extradition treaty involving the two nations.
Mr Ahmed on Wednesday had stated the government will cancel the passport of Nawaz Sharif on February 16.
Nawaz Sharif, 70, has been living in London due to the fact November final year immediately after the Lahore High Court granted him permission to go abroad for 4 weeks for therapy.
The 3-time former prime minister, who was convicted in two corruption situations — Avenfield properties and Al-Azizia — was declared a proclaimed offender in December by the Islamabad High Court immediately after he failed to seem ahead of it in spite of various warnings.
Addressing a press conference on Friday, Mr Ahmed stated the government will discover all possibilities to bring back Nawaz Sharif to Pakistan.
However, due to the fact Pakistan at the moment has no extradition treaty with Britain, his ministry can only cancel Nawaz Sharif’s passport when it is expired, he stated.
Mr Ahmed stated the PML-N chief’s passport will expire on February 16 and it will not be renewed.
Prime Minister Imran Khan in October had stated that he would get in touch with his British counterpart Boris Johnson, if required, to talk about Nawaz Sharif’s deportation.
Adviser to the Prime Minister on Accountability and Interior, Mirza Shahzad Akbar, on Wednesday stated Pakistan had asked the British authorities to deport Nawaz Sharif who was convicted by the courts.
Nawaz Sharif resigned as Pakistan prime minister in 2017 immediately after the Supreme Court disqualified him from holding public workplace and ruled that graft situations be filed against the beleaguered leader more than the Panama Papers scandal.
