Evacuations from coastal locations have been ordered in New Zealand, New Caledonia and Vanuatu Friday as tsunami waves have been observed following a cluster of potent South Pacific earthquakes, authorities mentioned.
“Tsunami waves have been observed,” the Hawaii-based Pacific Tsunami Warning Center mentioned, revealing ocean gauges had picked up tiny waves close to the Tonga capital Nuku’alofa measuring about 3 centimetres (1.3 inches).

Tsunamis grow to be more potent as they travel across the ocean and the centre has warned some locations like Vanuatu and the French territory of New Caledonia could be hit by waves of up to 3 metres soon after 3 important quakes, the biggest at 8.1 magnitude.
