Hong Kong, China:
Hong Kong and Macau on Wednesday stated they had been suspending the use of Pfizer/BioNTech’s coronavirus vaccine following becoming informed of a packaging difficulty with a batch of vials.
“For the sake of precaution, the current vaccination must be suspended during the period of investigation,” Hong Kong’s government stated in a statement.
Both Chinese cities stated their selection came following they had been contacted about the situation by Fosun, the Chinese pharmaceutical enterprise that is distributing the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine in China.
Vials with the lot quantity 210102 had been discovered to have defective packaging, authorities stated.
The statements from Hong Kong and Macau did not give any facts on how the packaging was defective but each stated they did not think there had been any security dangers.
Authorities stated they decided to act out of an abundance of caution till their investigation is concluded.
Some Hong Kongers took to social media to say their appointments that day had been cancelled and that some vaccination centres had been closed.
One centre visited by an AFP reporter had been taped off.
