Recently, there have been various complaints with regards to monetary frauds completed via mobile phones by sending pesky messages promising loans and so forth. During the meeting, officials pointed out that even the subscribers registered in Do-Not-Disturb (DND) service continue to obtain industrial communication from registered telemarketers (RTMs) and additional unregistered telemarketers (UTMs) are also sending industrial communication to the subscribers.

The officials apprised the minister that for UCC and monetary fraud-associated complaints, time is of the utmost essence and swift time-bound action will aid in lowering such menace. Accordingly, a nodal agency, named Digital Intelligence Unit (DIU)will be set up.
The major function of DIU will be to coordinate with several law enforcement agencies, monetary institutions and telecom service providers in investigating any fraudulent activity involving telecom sources. A licence service region level, Telecom Analytics for Fraud Management and Consumer Protection (TAFCOP) method will also be designed.

The minister also directed the officials to devise particular tactics like blocking of telecom operations due to increasing concern in Jamtara and Mewat area for curbing fraudulent activities involving usage of telecom sources.
Prasad also directed the officials to conduct a meeting with telcos and telemarketers to apprise them of the seriousness of the problem and to make certain the compliance of laid down guidelines and procedures in this regard.
