The EPFO had taken quite a few methods in the previous to enable personnel make correction in the provident fund account specifics. The methods to make correction in name, father name, date of birth and so on have been clearly defined by the EPFO. However, now EPFO is bringing about some modifications in the procedure. The modifications will be classified as Minor and Major modifications and accordingly the procedure to make correction will have to be carried out.
The will need to introduce new recommendations is due to the fact EPFO observed some situations of fraudulent withdrawals from PF account. According to EPFO, correction in member profile has been permitted to rectify the errors in name, father/husband name, DOB and gender.
However, it has been observed that total name and profile alter has been created in specific situations top to fraudulent withdrawals.
A total alter in the member profile can not be permitted in the standard course by way of on the net or offline procedure except in intense conditions exactly where it has been established that the member name has been changed following the due procedure prescribed in law, or there has been an erroneous upload of member information by the employer, on production of documentary proof by the member and employer and just after due verification.
In the suppression of preceding directions concerning the correction of KYC, the following recommendations are issued by EPFO:
Minor corrections
1. If the correction is connected to expanding the name/surname from abbreviation to complete name, or vice versa, with out altering the 1st letter if, just after the correction, the pronunciation of the name does not alter. E.g. from R. Kumar to Rakesh Kumar, from V. S. Verma to Vijay Shankar Verma is a minor correction. But from R. Kumar to Suresh Kumar is not a minor correction.
2. If the father name or husband name is inserted as a middle name in AADHAR e.g. Sunita Kumar (s/o or w/o Ramesh Kumar) to Sunita Ramesh Kumar.
3. If it entails only alter in the surname of female personnel just after marriage. E.g. from Sunita Sharma to Sunita Singh.
Major corrections
All these situations which do not fall in the category of “Minor correction”, or any correction top to total alter in name/father name, or exactly where correction in more than two fields are involved.
Authority competent to approve “Minor” and “Major” corrections shall be:
a) For Minor Corrections: APFC/RPFC II
b) For Major corrections: RPFC-I/RPFC-II(OIC)
Major corrections as described above shall not be completed in the on the net procedure with out acquiring right documentary proof, like an explanation from the employer, and verification of the genuineness of the case as deemed suitable by the RPFC I/RPFC II(OIC).
In case of closed establishment exactly where the employer or authorized signatory is not traceable/offered, the Authority to attest the joint declaration shall be one amongst the authorities prescribed and the correction shall be created working out due care and caution and only just after due verification of the documentary proof produced in proof of identity, employment and so on.
i. In case the joint declaration is signed by the employer need to be asked to generate original records such as employee register, increment orders, payslip, appointment order, any application created to EPF workplace to right incorrect name in type-23 (PF slip), and so on., on the basis of which employer is certifying the alter request.
ii. In case of closed establishment, the applicant may well be asked to generate proof such as appointment letter, payslip, increment order, PF-slip and any application to right name in type 23.
iii. Such other records as the authority feels essential can also be asked. Verification by way of EO may well also be completed.
