Buenos Aires, Argentina:
Seven folks have been placed beneath formal investigation for manslaughter in Argentina more than the November death of footballing legend Diego Maradona, AFP has discovered from a judicial supply.
The accused — who incorporate Maradona’s neurosurgeon Leopoldo Luque, psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov and psychologist Carlos Diaz — potentially face eight to 25 years in prison.
The indictment is based on findings by a board of authorities into Maradona’s death from a heart attack last year at the age of 60, a supply from the San Isidro Attorney General’s Office, which is top the investigation, mentioned Wednesday.
That report concluded that the footballing icon received inadequate health-related care and was left to his fate for a “prolonged, agonizing period” ahead of his death, which came just weeks right after he underwent brain surgery on a blood clot.
“After so many injustices, the case has come full circle,” the supply told AFP.
The accused are prohibited from leaving the nation and will be questioned by investigators involving May 31 and June 14.
The legal proceedings had been prompted by a complaint filed by two of Maradona’s 5 daughters against Luque, who they blamed for their father’s deteriorating situation right after the brain surgery.
Prosecutors think Maradona’s death was not the outcome of malpractice or negligent actions by his physicians, but that they knew the former Barcelona and Napoli star would die and did practically nothing to stop it.
The prosecutors obtained a series of messages and audio that show that the health-related group had been conscious that Maradona was making use of alcohol, psychiatric medication and marijuana in the final months of his life.
Among the conclusions of the report, the health-related board mentioned that “the signs of life risk” shown by Maradona had been ignored, and that his care in his final weeks was “plagued by deficiencies and irregularities”.
The recriminations and accusations more than Maradona’s death are taking location alongside one more case, more than his disputed inheritance, involving his 5 children, his brothers and Matias Morla, his former lawyer.
Maradona is an idol to millions of Argentines right after he inspired the South American nation to only their second World Cup triumph in 1986.
