Dhaka, Bangladesh:
Bangladesh has announced it will impose a difficult new lockdown beginning Monday, immediately after a “dangerous and alarming” surge in Delta variant circumstances of coronavirus.
All government and private offices will be shut for a week and only healthcare-connected transport will be permitted, the government mentioned late Friday.
“No one can step out of their homes except in emergency cases,” a statement added.
Health division spokesman Robed Amin mentioned police and border guards would be deployed to enforce the lockdown and the army may well be involved if necessary.
“It is a dangerous and alarming situation. If we don’t contain it now, we will face an India-like situation,” Amin told AFP, referring to a surge in circumstances in neighbouring India in April and May.
Infection prices have been increasing sharply due to the fact mid-May in Bangladesh, home to about 170 million folks.
On Friday the government recorded nearly 6,000 new circumstances and 108 fatalities, the second-highest death toll but in the pandemic.
Authorities say the circumstance in districts close to the Indian border is catastrophic, with hospitals in the cities of Khulna and Rajshahi overwhelmed.
Infection numbers in India have fallen sharply in current weeks, with fewer than 50,000 new circumstances reported on Friday, down from more than 400,000 day-to-day in early May.
But authorities in the western Indian state of Maharashtra on Friday tightened restrictions for the reason that of issues about a new variant, Delta plus, about 50 circumstances of which have been reported nationwide.
