Chennai plans to introduce more urban forests to raise biodiversity and green cover in the city. For this, the Greater Chennai Corporation has decided to set up 1000 more urban forests. They are attempting to utilise open spaces and reserve lands that will assistance in boosting green cover, a report by The IE noted. According to the report, Chennai Corporation Commissioner G Prakash mentioned that the corporation has requested private developers, resident associations, as effectively as NGOs to assistance develop more urban forests. The statement was produced at the anniversary celebration of Miyawaki forest in Kottupuram. Prakash mentioned that the private firms can also use the chance and spot ads, signboards in the forests they will sustain.
To develop more awareness relating to this, the Greater Chennai Corporation has also provided permission to the residents to stop by forests that are there in different components of the city. According to the officials, this permit will create interest amongst folks for assisting in improvement of urban forests.
It is to note that the corporation planted the initially Miyawaki forest at Canal Bank Road in Zone 13 (Adyar) obtaining an location of 2211.87 sq.m. The report mentioned that this space used to be a garbage dump that had strong waste and building debris but now it has been turned into a green cover. When this was produced, more than 2,000 saplings have been planted and the total price involved in altering this location accounted for about Rs 15 lakh.
