At least nine folks died of COVID-19 through the trials at Prevent Senior from March to April 2020, but their charts have been altered to hide the result in of death, the inquiry was told last week by a lawyer for 10 whistleblowing medical doctors.
The Senators have been told the hospital chain sought to validate far-correct President Jair Bolsonaro’s policy of advocating the anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine to treat COVID patients.
Prevent Senior has mentioned the accusations, such as the altering of patient charts and the firing of medical doctors who opposed the practice, are unfounded.
Rebello mentioned the ANS opened an administrative procedure to investigate irregularities at Prevent Senior and has sent officials to confirm “indications of operational failures.”
Closer monitoring is not aimed at removing the hospital chain from the industry but seeks to assure upkeep of good quality care, he mentioned.
The regulator head mentioned he had no information of the allegations made by the medical doctors till they presented to the Senate inquiry.
In a statement, Prevent Senior mentioned it had not been officially notified of the ANS selection. It mentioned it had supplied the regulator with documents that show it acted inside ethical and regulatory norms.
