Italy’s anti-trust authority AGCM or Autorità Garante della Concorrenza e del Mercato has fined Apple 10 million euros (roughly $12 million) for ‘misleading’ claims on water resistance capacity of its iPhones. The Italian Competition Authority in a release mentioned that the premium smartphone maker advertised about iPhones getting water resistant without the need of clarifying the precise situations beneath which they had been.
Criticising Apple for not clarifying its water resistance claims, the AGCM mentioned the claims had been correct only beneath specific situations. Apple claims that its various iPhone models are water resistant up to 30 minutes at a depth of up to 4 meters (based on the model).
The authority criticised Apple for not clarifying that the house is located only beneath particular circumstances like in the course of controlled and particular laboratory tests utilizing pure and static water, and not beneath regular circumstances in which its devices are utilised by buyers.
The ACGM mentioned in the statement that Apple’s disclaimer tricked clients as it states that iPhones had been not covered by warranty if the harm occured from any liquid. The regulator mentioned that clients had been not offered any data with regards to this and had been not offered warranty cover by Apple when their smartphones had been broken by water or even other liquids.
Apple has so far refused to comment on the improvement.
Earlier in 2018, Italy’s anti-trust authority had fined Apple and Samsung for alleged throttling of older devices. They had been fined a total of 10 million euros combined for a pair of violations. The American multinational technologies corporation was fined 5 million euros or USD 5.7 million when customers began to face complications in numerous models of iPhone 6 right after installing iOS 10. The fine was also imposed for not informing apple customers data about their devices’ batteries.
