Four guys have been arrested for allegedly duping persons in Spain by posing as executives of Microsoft Corporation and giving them enterprise-connected services, the police mentioned today.
The accused, identified as Imran (25), Mohammad Tauqueer Kidwai (27), Mohammad Azam (27) and Deepak Lal (27), operated a fake contact centre in southeast Delhi’s Ashram region from exactly where calls have been created to the persons living in Spain, employing Voice more than Internet Protocol (VoIP) calls, the police mentioned.
According to the police, the accused hired persons to work at the contact centre and make calls to their targets in Spain and dupe them by supplying them services connected to Microsoft Corporation.
They had even set up a toll-free of charge quantity on which they got calls from Spain but rather of getting them, they would contact them back to lessen expense and invoice on their toll-free of charge quantity, the police added.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast Delhi) RP Meena mentioned, “On Wednesday, we got a tip off that some people were running an online cheating racket at Ashram and targeting foreigners in Spain by posing as executives of Microsoft Corporation. It also came to our notice that the fraudsters were engaged in using illegal techniques like VoIP calling.”
The accused used to cheat these in Spain by promising them services of Microsoft Corporation, he mentioned.
A raid was performed at the contact centre in Ashram exactly where a lot of persons have been engaged in producing and getting calls. One of the accused, Mohammad Tauqueer Kidwai, present at the spot, accepted that he was the owner of the contact centre and also runs a house and a travel agency, the officer mentioned.
A case was registered and in the course of the course of investigation, 5 e-mail accounts, 4 laptops and 10 tough discs from 10 Central Processing Units (CPUs) of computer systems, which have been getting operated by the accused, have been seized from the spot, he mentioned.
Ten other persons also joined the investigation but they have been released soon after notices have been served to them to join the investigation in future if essential, the police mentioned.
