Moscow:
Russian authorities stated on Saturday they had arrested two people today as portion of an investigation into the death of 18 people today in the Urals who drank bootleg alcohol, in the second such incident in current weeks.
Investigators stated “several individuals sold people an alcohol liquid that was dangerous for their health” more than the previous two weeks in Yekaterinburg, Russia’s fourth-biggest city.
“Eighteen people died after drinking the liquid,” the statement stated.
An investigation had been opened into the sale of sub-regular goods and death by negligence, which could entail prison sentences of up to 10 years, it stated.
At the starting of October, at least 36 people today in the area of Orenburg died soon after drinking bootleg alcohol containing methanol, which is very toxic.
Such situations are not uncommon in Russia, exactly where about 21 million people today live under the poverty line.
In 2016, more than 60 people today died in Irkutsk in Siberia soon after drinking contraband bath oil that contained methanol.
Russia toughened its legislation soon after that incident.
However, the value of vodka is prohibitive for millions of Russians, especially in rural locations with quite low requirements of living.
