The present landscape of significant social media platforms sets a low bar for applying ethical technologies to do very good for society. It is not a debatable truth that these platforms not only rely on, but that they thrive on the negativity, divisiveness and political polarization they allow. They of course do some very good for the world and one can’t dismiss the tremendous worth to the world that they have the capability to provide. However, they have deliberately selected to use unethical technologies to propel on-line toxicity that in the end drives eyeballs and activity to their platform.
Research has repeatedly demonstrated that negativity and opposing views drive elevated on-line activity. The significant social media platforms have an understanding of this and use their algorithms to serve this content up to the masses typically at the expense of truth, positivity and civility. They do a wonderful job defending their actions by attractive to civil liberties and other such freedoms, and by speaking of their efforts to combat difficulties that they have produced such as fake news and trolling. They undoubtedly have the technologies and the monetary sources to address these challenges.
They pick even so to use it largely to propel their company models which are pretty much totally driven by marketing which is pretty much totally driven by higher usage of their platform and then targeting people with particular adds that appeal to them. The conversation about how they target people and the privacy violations about that is a further subject all collectively.
The challenge to our society is that these on-line social platforms have produced a dominant marketplace that appeals to the masses, and there are not sufficient option alternatives to provide a counterbalance. As such, today’s significant social platforms have socialized an whole generation to count on a specific variety of on-line practical experience, one that is significantly less about selecting every single other up and more about placing every single other down.
It will take a Social Revolution to adjust this and that this adjust starts with social platforms that use ethical technologies to market social very good. We aim to be one of lots of future counterbalances that focus on building communities that reinforce positivity, collaboration, and delivering social very good. This is about alternatives and these we have made have prioritized positivity more than negativity, sharing and collaborating more than dividing, security and privacy more than monitoring and trolling, and social very good more than sensational bickering.
The query of course will be how a great deal interest is there in a on-line platform that focuses on performing very good for the world. How a great deal interest will there be in an on-line platform that is constructed to raise other people up? How a great deal interest will there be in a worldwide on-line platform whose currency is about assisting one a further? This all remains to be seen but we think that a Social Revolution is required to counterbalance the impacts of the massive social media platforms of today. We chose to invest in our society by investing in our platform. And we pick to bet on the goodness of individuals and the goodness of our society.
