Los Angeles:
A girl opened fire at a college in the northwestern US state of Idaho on Thursday, injuring 3 people today ahead of becoming disarmed by a teacher, police mentioned.
The unnamed student at Rigby Middle School close to Idaho Falls was in the sixth grade, which means she would probably be aged 11 or 12.
She “retrieved a handgun from her backpack, fired multiple rounds inside of the school and out,” mentioned Jefferson County sheriff Steve Anderson.
Injuries suffered by two students and one employees member are not believed to be life-threatening, he mentioned.
“During the shooting a teacher disarmed the student, and detained her until law enforcement took her into custody,” added Anderson at a press conference.
The shooting is becoming investigated by the FBI as effectively as neighborhood law enforcement.
The US has suffered a spate of mass shootings in current weeks, such as at a FedEx facility in Indianapolis, an workplace constructing in California, a grocery retailer in Colorado and at various spas in Atlanta.
President Joe Biden last month branded US gun violence an “epidemic” and an “international embarrassment”
There had been more than 43,000 gun-connected deaths in the United States last year, such as suicides, according to the Gun Violence Archive.
