Veteran actress Shashikala Om Prakash Saigal breathed her final in Mumbai on Sunday (April 4). She was 88. The Padmashri awardee featured as a supporting actress in more than one hundred Hindi films. The news of Shashikala’s death was shared on Facebook by writer Kiran Kotrial. Several celebs took to their social media handles to provide condolences.

Shashikal has films like Sujata, Aarti, Anupama, Phool Aur Patthar, Ayi Milan Ki Bela, Gumrah, Waqt, Khubsoorat Pardesi Babu, Baadshah, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi and Chori Chori to her credit. She has worked with Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan in films like Baadshah and Mujhse Shaadi Karogi. She even featured in a number of well-liked shows like Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai, Son Pari and handful of other people.

Offering condolences Padmini Kolhapure wrote, “OMG! IPRIP Shashikala Ji 🙏“. Alike, Raveena Tandon, Hiten Tejwani, Delnaaz Irani also supplied condolences to the late actress’ family members and mates.

Farhan Akhtar tweeted, “RIP Shashikalaji. Condolences to the family. “

Singer Adnan Sami tweeted, Saddened to learn that legendary actress Shashikala ji has passed away… She was a brilliant & versatile actress. May she rest in peace… ”

“Our dear Shashikala Ji is no more. She was a great artist. May the almighty give the family strength and patience to bear this irreplaceable loss. Deepest condolences, ”wrote Naved Jafri.

Director Anil Sharma tweeted, RIP #ShashiKala JI .. good actress .. M fortunate to work with her in #maharaja .. heartiest condolence n prayers ”

In the year 2007, Shashikala was honored with the Padma Shri award (the fourth highest civilian award) for her contribution to Indian cinema. In 2009, she was bestowed with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the V. Shantaram Awards. She had began acting at the tender age of 5.
