Jerusalem:
At least two worshippers had been killed and more than one hundred injured on Sunday when a grandstand collapsed in a synagogue below building in a Jewish settlement in the occupied West Bank, Israel’s national ambulance service mentioned.
The accident in Givat Zeev, just north of Jerusalem, raised more queries about security measures at substantial ultra-Orthodox events, two weeks right after 45 pilgrims had been crushed to death in a stampede at the burial web-site of a Jewish sage in northern Israel.
A police spokesman mentioned 650 worshippers had been at the Givat worship web-site for the begin of the Jewish vacation of Shavuot.
The occasion was held in a partially constructed synagogue. The regional mayor and senior fire brigade and police officers mentioned it had gone ahead regardless of the lack of a permit and official warnings that the constructing zone was unsafe.
A spokesman for the Magen David Adom ambulance service mentioned at least two folks had been killed. Ambulances and military helicopters ferried the injured to hospitals.
Security footage broadcast on Channel 12 Television showed a crowded grandstand collapsing and worshippers falling on major of every other.
“We were called again to another event where there was negligence and a lack of responsibility. There will be arrests,” Jerusalem District police chief Doron Turgeman mentioned from the scene, on live Television.
